Cape Breton Tourism - Digital Round-Up
As I am sitting in the car as my partner and I embark on our journey across the beautiful Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada, I couldn't think of a better time to create a digital round-up of information sources on Cape Breton tourism.
This blog post will feature a variety helpful digital tools that you too can use on your next adventure across the island. I will provide a brief analysis on each medium and compare their capacities and limitations.
PODCAST
Living Life Intently - 033 Favourite Summer Adventures (and recommendations)
Linked above is an absolutely amazing podcast from hosts Lee Fraser and Jonathan Kanary about their favourite things to do on the Cabot Trail - one of Cape Breton's most famous tourist attractions.
This medium is going to be perfect for anyone looking for some inspiration before the embark on their long journey across the Cabot Trail. Lee and Jonathan's podcast provides more than just inspiration, though. On top of giving you some ideas on where specifically to visit on the trail, the pair give some excellent recommendations on where you can eat too!
I've done the Cabot Trail prior to this current trip that I'm on right now...and it's a long day, a great one, but it's long. Especially if you're travelling with kids, you're going to want to know where to eat in advance. Given that the Cabot Trail is such a huge tourist attraction, it is insanely busy and oftentimes the little restaurants you find are jam packed, so Lee and Jonathan provide some excellent tips on how to combat that.
The only limitation to podcast mediums is the lack of visual content. Lee and Jonathan do a great job at helping you visualize, but if you've never seen the Cabot Trail before, you should start with a different medium, like a blog!
BLOG
The Ultimate Cabot Trail Itinerary
The next medium I am going to feature is a blog written by traveler and blogger under the name Adventurous Kate. As the title suggests, this blog is the ultimate itinerary to your next Cabot Trail adventure.
Kate's blog features some history/important facts about the trail but also provides some key reasons for visiting the trail in the first place. This is helpful if you're trying to compile a bucket list of things you want to do on your trip.
Another insanely helpful tip on Kate's blog is a suggestion on how many days you need to fully take in the whole Cabot Trail experience. In addition to this, Kate provides an in-depth itinerary of how she explored the Cabot Trail, helpful to anyone looking to follow a guide.
There aren't really any limitations to this format! Although not audible, there are tons of pictures to help give newcomers an idea of what the trail is really like, and I said above, is perfect for anyone looking to follow a guide.
DOCUMENTARY
Post Cards From Cape Breton Island
Next up, documentary! Documentaries are interesting mediums. Although long, they are excellent tools to help people who are looking to learn the most information about something. In this case, a documentary is insanely helpful in teaching travellers all about the Cabot Trail before they embark on their journey. You really can't get more information elsewhere. Downside is, they're usually quite long, but if you sit back with a bowl of popcorn and a blanket, you're set!
The documentary linked above is a fascinating one. The name quite frankly is an excellent idea of what it's about...a journey across the island and all of things to experience. A great travel documentary that will certainly give anyone inspiration before their big trip.
PHOTO GALLERY
Photo galleries are useful tools for people to get an idea of where they are going beforehand. It is helpful to look through photos of places before your trip to get an idea of places you'd like to visit and places that you'd rather save for another time. All of the pictures of the Cabot Trail are absolutely stunning and are surely to get you excited about your trip in no time.
Linked above has to be my favourite photo gallery of Cape Breton Island featuring hundreds of photos of Sydney, the Cabot Trail, Ingonish, Baddek, Glace Bay, Mira, and more.
YOUTUBE
YouTube is a very modern medium but is such an innovative tool. I myself have learnt so much from some channels and it has become a very big part of my life.
Samuel and Audrey have more than 400,000 subscribers on their YouTube channel, needless to say they are very recognized. They posted an amazing 30 minute video all about their experience in Cape Breton and includes an in-depth travel guide of everything they did. Another great medium to refer to if you're looking for a guide to follow, and, you get to see the amazing views!
